Washington, USA – Web Desk: The United States has carried out a targeted operation eliminating a senior Iranian figure accused of plotting against President Donald Trump, U.S. Defense Secretary Pat Higsth announced.
Speaking at a press briefing alongside Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Kane, Higsth said the strike targeted the head of an Iranian unit allegedly involved in assassination planning against Trump.
“The United States will continue decisive action to protect its political leadership from threats,” Higsth said, without revealing the operative’s name or further operational details.
U.S. officials have previously accused Iran of plotting against current and former U.S. officials. In 2024, charges were filed against an Afghan national and an Iranian-born individual over plans targeting Trump ahead of his potential re-election.
Authorities stated that 51-year-old Farhad Shakiri was allegedly tasked by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to monitor and plot against Trump. The plot was reportedly uncovered before the 2024 elections, allowing law enforcement to thwart the plan.
Iran has consistently denied such allegations, labeling previous claims as baseless.
