WASHINGTON – Web Desk: The US Senate has passed a resolution in favor of ending the blockade around Iran and withdrawing American military forces, marking the first congressional challenge to the Trump administration’s Iran policy since the conflict began.
The resolution passed with 50 votes in favor and 47 against. It would require congressional approval for any future US military action against Iran, effectively limiting the president’s authority to launch offensive strikes without legislative consent.
According to international media reports, four Republican senators broke ranks with their party to side with Democrats: Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Rand Paul, and Bill Cassidy. The defection stunned political circles, particularly Cassidy’s vote, as he had recently lost his primary election after President Trump endorsed his opponent.
Democratic Senator John Fetterman was the sole member of his party to oppose the resolution. The measure will now face further debate and a final vote in the Senate, where Republican leadership may attempt to block it.
