US Pulls All Bombers From UK’s RAF Fairford After Suspected Terror Plot

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — WEB DESK: The United States has withdrawn all of its bombers deployed at RAF Fairford in Britain, with the aircraft returning to their home stations in the US as authorities investigate a suspected terrorist plot targeting the strategically important military facility.

The Pentagon confirmed the redeployment after the aircraft had already left the Gloucestershire base, citing operational security restrictions that prevented officials from discussing military movements in real time.

Around a dozen B-1 bombers had been stationed at RAF Fairford, which has played an important role in recent US military operations involving Iran.

The aircraft had been used during American strikes against Iranian targets before being returned to their respective bases in the United States.

The withdrawal comes roughly a week after several people were arrested on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts connected to RAF Fairford.

Six people have been detained during the investigation and subsequently released on bail while inquiries continue.

The investigation began following a security incident near the airbase in late September.

British authorities have said there are strong indications of possible Iranian involvement in the suspected plot.

Iran has firmly rejected the allegation, describing attempts to link Tehran to the incident as baseless. Tehran also summoned the British ambassador in protest over the accusations.

The alleged plot has heightened concerns over the security of RAF Fairford because of the base’s role in US military operations.

The facility has hosted American B-1 and B-52 strategic bombers and has long served as an important forward operating location for US Air Force missions.

Britain had permitted American bombers operating from Fairford to participate in strikes against Iranian missile sites amid conflict linked to attacks on shipping around the Strait of Hormuz.

US officials have not indicated that removing the bombers will prevent the American military from conducting future long-range operations.

The Pentagon maintains that US bombers routinely operate globally to meet military readiness and operational requirements.

The aircraft withdrawal comes as Washington continues to assess its military posture toward Iran and reinforce other assets in and around the Middle East.

The precise motive behind the suspected RAF Fairford plot remains under investigation, while no final judicial finding has established Iranian responsibility.

Security surrounding the British base and other facilities hosting US military assets remains under heightened scrutiny as the investigation continues.
