Iran Warns Neighbours of ‘Different Response’ if Territory Used for Future Attacks

TEHRAN, IRAN — WEB DESK: Iran has issued a warning to neighbouring and regional countries, saying Tehran would respond differently if their territory or military facilities were used to facilitate future US or Israeli attacks against the Islamic Republic.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei delivered the warning during a press conference in Tehran, urging governments across the region to reconsider policies that could allow their territory to be used in military action against Iran.

Baghaei said regional states that had made facilities available to the United States and Israel during the recent conflict should reassess their position.

He warned that if Iran faced another attack by the United States or Israel and the territory of a regional country was used to facilitate it, Tehran’s response would be “different”.

Iran continues to place importance on relations with neighbouring states but would not accept the use of another country’s territory or infrastructure to enable military operations against Iranian territory, Baghaei said.

Tehran has communicated its concerns to governments across the region and wants neighbouring states to prevent their territory and facilities from being used by parties involved in military operations against Iran.

The warning comes amid continuing tensions between Tehran and Washington following months of conflict and unsuccessful attempts to secure a broader diplomatic settlement.

Iranian officials have recently signalled that any renewed large-scale military action could produce a stronger response than earlier phases of the conflict.

Tehran has also been reviewing potential retaliation options that could extend beyond US military assets if another major attack takes place.

The warning adds another layer of uncertainty for regional countries that host US military facilities while simultaneously maintaining diplomatic and economic relations with Iran.

Diplomatic contacts between Iran and the United States have continued despite the tensions.

Discussions have focused on security in the Strait of Hormuz and conditions Tehran has presented for reopening the strategically important waterway.

Iran maintains that the strait will not fully reopen until conditions contained in an earlier understanding are implemented.

Tehran has also stressed that it remains open to diplomacy while warning that renewed military action would trigger retaliation.

Baghaei’s latest remarks therefore reinforce Iran’s message that neighbouring countries could face consequences if their territory becomes part of any future military operation against the Islamic Republic.
