US May Ease Iran Oil Sanctions to Advance Peace Deal

Date:

Washington, United States – Web Desk: The United States has offered temporary relief on sanctions targeting Iranian oil exports as part of ongoing efforts to reach a broader peace agreement and restore stability in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, the proposal emerged during indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington being mediated by Pakistan. Sources familiar with the talks said the sanctions relief would not take effect immediately but would instead be implemented after a final agreement is reached between the two sides.

Neither the United States nor Iran has officially confirmed the reported proposal, and no immediate response was issued to media inquiries regarding the negotiations.

The reported move follows an earlier decision in March when the US administration temporarily eased restrictions for 30 days on purchases of Iranian oil transported by sea. That step came after Iran effectively limited maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz in response to military tensions involving the United States and Israel, triggering sharp increases in global oil prices.

Analysts say the apparent policy shift by US President Donald Trump is significant, as Washington has long sought to curb Iranian oil exports through sanctions and financial restrictions.

The US government has also expressed concern that rising oil prices could negatively impact domestic economic activity, consumer spending, and global financial markets.

Meanwhile, the International Energy Agency warned that escalating conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, combined with damage to Gulf oil facilities and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, could trigger one of the worst oil crises in modern history.

The agency cautioned that global oil inventories are declining rapidly and may not recover fully until late next year if tensions continue.
