US-Iran Talks Likely in Pakistan, German FM Reveals

Date:

ISLAMABAD/BERLIN – Web Desk: Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has revealed that representatives from the United States and Iran are expected to meet soon in Pakistan, marking a potential breakthrough in efforts to de-escalate rising tensions in the Middle East.

In an interview with German radio, Wadephul said preparations for direct talks have been finalized after a period of indirect engagement between Washington and Tehran. The anticipated meeting in Pakistan is aimed at reducing hostilities and advancing diplomatic negotiations.

The development comes as U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff has also acknowledged Pakistan’s key role in facilitating communication between the two sides. He confirmed that positive messages have been exchanged through Islamabad’s mediation efforts.

Pakistani officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, have reiterated that Islamabad is actively engaged in diplomatic initiatives to promote regional stability and bring both parties closer to negotiations.

Analysts say that if the proposed meeting takes place and yields progress, it could significantly reduce tensions in the region while enhancing Pakistan’s standing as an important diplomatic mediator on the global stage.
