WASHINGTON – Web Desk: The Trump administration has deported approximately 20 migrants from Afghanistan, Iran, and other countries — including two Iranian women — to the Central African Republic (CAR), a war-torn region, according to media reports.
The Central African Republic is designated as a Level 4 conflict zone where violence and instability have led the US government to warn citizens not to travel there “for any reason.” According to an immigration attorney, among those deported is an Iranian pro-democracy activist who had fled to the United States and had legal protections from a US immigration court.
CAR, one of the world’s poorest countries, has been plagued by armed conflicts, human rights violations, and political instability for decades. The State Department’s travel advisory states: “Do not travel to the Central African Republic for any reason,” citing civil unrest, crime, kidnapping, health risks, terrorism, and other dangers. Migrants from Armenia and Iraq were also among those deported.
