US Congress Bill May Expand Israel Military Tech Access

Date:

Washington, United States – Web Desk: A new defense bill introduced in the US Congress could significantly deepen military and technological cooperation between the United States and Israel.

The proposal, included in the draft of the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act, seeks to expand collaboration in defense research, weapons development, and advanced military technologies between the two allies.

The measure, titled the “US–Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative,” would authorize enhanced joint work in areas including artificial intelligence, drone systems, cybersecurity operations, military data sharing, and integrated weapons platforms.

Under the proposal, the US Secretary of Defense would appoint a dedicated official responsible for overseeing and coordinating all bilateral defense projects between Washington and Tel Aviv.

Analysts say that if approved, the legislation could elevate US–Israel defense ties to a new strategic level, moving beyond traditional military aid toward deeper integration of defense industries.

Former US State Department official Josh Paul criticized the proposal, warning it could grant Israel unprecedented access to American defense technology and supply chains, potentially influencing future US defense policy.

The United States and Israel already cooperate on several joint defense programs, including the Iron Dome missile defense system. The new initiative aims to broaden that cooperation into emerging warfare domains such as cyber and AI-driven military systems.

The bill still requires approval from both the House of Representatives and the Senate, although it has reportedly received support from key members of both Republican and Democratic parties.
