F-35 jet defends USS Abraham Lincoln as Iranian drone approaches aggressively
Washington, United States – Web Desk: The United States military has claimed it shot down an Iranian drone in the Arabian Sea after it aggressively approached the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier.
According to international news agencies, the Pentagon said the Iranian Shahed-139 drone advanced toward the carrier with unclear intentions. US Central Command spokesperson Navy Captain Tim Hawkins stated that an F-35C fighter jet launched from the Abraham Lincoln intercepted and destroyed the drone in self-defense.
He confirmed that the action ensured the safety of the aircraft carrier and its crew, adding that no US personnel or equipment were harmed during the incident.
The development comes at a sensitive time as the United States and Iran prepare for nuclear negotiations in Türkiye later this week, with Pakistan and other regional countries invited to participate.
The USS Abraham Lincoln, currently deployed in the Arabian Sea, represents one of the largest US military presences in the Middle East amid heightened regional tensions. Earlier, President Donald Trump warned Iran of serious consequences if nuclear talks failed, while Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei cautioned that any attack could escalate into a regional war.
