Washington, United States – Web Desk: News Article The White House has assured full security for Iran’s national football team during the upcoming FIFA World Cup in the United States, despite escalating geopolitical tensions between Washington and Tehran.
Speaking at a conference in Texas, Andrew Giuliani, head of the White House World Cup Task Force, said the United States expects Iran to participate in the tournament and pledged comprehensive security arrangements for the team.
Giuliani noted that the World Cup would serve as an opportunity for Iranian-Americans to celebrate their cultural identity, even as diplomatic strains persist.
According to reports, Iran’s group-stage matches are scheduled to take place in Los Angeles and Seattle.
However, Iran’s Ministry of Sport and Youth has reportedly barred its national teams from traveling to the United States, citing safety concerns. Earlier, Donald Trump also raised questions about the security of Iranian players.
Tehran had requested that its matches be relocated to Mexico, but global football governing body FIFA rejected the proposal.
The development highlights the intersection of global sports and international politics, as the Middle East conflict continues to shape diplomatic and cultural engagements worldwide.
