WASHINGTON, — The United States and several allied nations have issued a joint warning to China over alleged espionage activities involving the use of online recruitment platforms to gather sensitive information, according to a report by a U.S. newspaper.
The warning was jointly issued by the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, countries that are part of the intelligence-sharing alliance commonly known as the Five Eyes.
According to the report, Western security agencies have accused China of attempting to obtain confidential and sensitive information through fraudulent employment offers and fake recruitment campaigns.
The report stated that individuals are allegedly being targeted through fabricated online profiles and job advertisements designed to attract professionals with access to valuable government, defense, technology, or corporate information.
Security officials warned that such recruitment efforts could be used to collect intelligence, identify potential sources, or gain access to restricted information.
China has previously rejected similar allegations made by Western governments, describing them as politically motivated and lacking evidence.
The latest warning comes amid growing tensions between China and several Western nations over cybersecurity, intelligence activities, trade disputes, and national security concerns.
