U.S. House Set to Vote on Limiting Trump’s War Powers on Iran

Date:

Washington, D.C., USA – Web Desk: The U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to vote today on a War Powers resolution that would limit President Donald Trump’s authority to continue military action against Iran without explicit Congressional approval.

The resolution aims to ensure that any decision to escalate or continue conflict with Iran receives formal consent from Congress, in accordance with the U.S. Constitution, which grants the power to declare war solely to the legislature.

A senior Democratic leader on the House Foreign Affairs Committee emphasized that “the President is not a king,” adding that Trump must justify any military action against Iran to Congress if it is claimed to be in the national interest.

Meanwhile, Republican leaders are linking the debate to homeland security, proposing votes to fund the Department of Homeland Security amid concerns over potential terrorist threats related to the conflict. House Speaker Mike Johnson stressed that ongoing military operations in Iran make full funding and staffing of Homeland Security increasingly critical.

The resolution comes after a similar measure failed in the U.S. Senate yesterday due to partisan voting. Analysts suggest that the House vote is likely to be closely contested, with a narrow margin expected between supporters and opponents.

Separately, the Department of Defense released the names of two additional soldiers killed in recent drone attacks: Chief Warrant Officer Robert Marzen and Major Jeffrey O’Brien. On the domestic political front, a Republican senator unexpectedly announced that he will not seek a third term, while former President Barack Obama is actively supporting new campaign initiatives in Virginia ahead of this year’s midterm elections.
