US President Donald Trump has warned that Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility could face a military strike, saying Tehran would be unable to prevent such an operation if it were carried out.
Washington, United States – Web Desk: Speaking alongside Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at the White House, Trump said a strike on the nuclear site located in the mountainous area of Natanz could happen soon, while asserting that Iran would be powerless to stop it.
Trump also defended his decision to withdraw the United States from the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement, arguing that if the deal negotiated under former President Barack Obama had remained in place, Iran would have developed nuclear weapons, posing what he described as a serious threat to Israel and the wider Middle East.
The US president further claimed that earlier American military operations targeting Iranian nuclear facilities had significantly weakened Tehran’s nuclear capabilities. He said that without those strikes, Iran could already have possessed nuclear weapons.
Trump also said US military action had severely degraded Iran’s military capabilities beyond what many had anticipated. Referring to recent attacks affecting Jordan, he suggested Iran would not have been able to inflict damage if “other operators” had acted differently, although he did not clarify whom he was referring to.
On diplomatic efforts, Trump said Iran was eager to hold talks with the United States to end the conflict because it was facing extensive destruction. However, he added that Washington currently had no interest in meeting Iranian officials.
Responding to a question about the Strait of Hormuz, Trump suggested Iran’s repeated threats regarding the strategic waterway could be aimed at influencing the upcoming US congressional elections and harming the electoral prospects of the Republican Party. He said any such efforts would not affect his administration’s decision-making and that the United States would continue to do what it considered appropriate.
Trump also said he did not believe the conflict with Iran would have a significant impact on the upcoming US elections.
