US President reacts sharply after France refuses to join Trump’s proposed Gaza Peace Board.
US President Donald Trump has sparked fresh international controversy after claiming that French President Emmanuel Macron may not remain in office for long, following France’s refusal to join a proposed “Gaza Board of Peace.”
According to international media reports, Trump made the remarks after failing to persuade France to participate in the initiative, which he claims is aimed at restoring peace in Gaza. French President Emmanuel Macron reportedly rejected the proposal outright, prompting an aggressive response from Trump.
In a series of social media posts, Trump accused Macron of being unpopular at home and warned that he could soon lose his position. He also threatened to impose a 200 percent tariff on French champagne and other imports, escalating tensions between Washington and Paris.
Trump further shared a private message from Macron in which the French leader expressed concern over Trump’s stance on Greenland and proposed cooperation during a G7 meeting. Macron later condemned Trump’s tariff threats as unacceptable, stating that the European Union would respond collectively to any unilateral trade actions.
Despite mounting political pressure, Macron has reaffirmed his commitment to complete his presidential term and has ruled out resignation. Elected in 2017 and re-elected later, Macron’s presidency has faced repeated parliamentary challenges, confidence motions, and public unrest, impacting his political stability but not his resolve to remain in office.
