WASHINGTON – Web Desk: The suspect in the shooting incident at a dinner event attended by President Donald Trump will be formally charged on Monday, the acting US Attorney General announced, adding that the attacker’s likely target was the president himself.
“It appears the suspect acted alone,” the acting attorney general said. “He was staying at the hotel and wanted to target government officials.” The official also noted that the suspect is not cooperating with the investigation.
US media identified the suspected attacker as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old from California. According to reports, the alleged attacker told authorities he wanted to target Trump administration officials.
Washington’s Mayor stated that when the lone armed individual moved toward the Secret Service in the lobby, an officer stopped him. The Washington Police Chief said hotel video would be reviewed to determine how the attacker entered with weapons. The suspect was found to possess a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives.
Meanwhile, the FBI has launched investigations at the suspect’s home and surrounding areas in Torrance, California.
