Washington, United States – Web Desk: U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that a recent shooting incident in Washington was “another attempt” on his life, as he called for enhanced security measures at the White House.
Speaking during an emergency press briefing following the incident, Trump said he had faced multiple threats in recent years, referencing past episodes in Pennsylvania and Florida where he was reportedly targeted during public appearances.
The president said the gunfire during the annual White House event underscored the urgent need for a modern ballroom facility and unprecedented security arrangements at the White House. “We need security like never before,” he stated.
According to Trump, a U.S. Secret Service officer was shot at close range during the incident but survived due to wearing a bulletproof vest. He added that he had personally spoken with the injured officer, who is now out of danger.
Officials said the suspect approached a security checkpoint carrying multiple weapons but was quickly subdued by Secret Service personnel. Trump praised the swift response of security forces, describing their actions as “brave and decisive.”
The president also claimed that images of the suspect and CCTV footage of the incident had been released on social media in the interest of transparency.
Senior officials, including the Homeland Security Secretary and the FBI Director, were present during the briefing, signaling the seriousness of the situation.
Trump noted that the event was intended to promote freedom of expression and unity but said the incident had once again highlighted serious security concerns.
