Washington, USA – Web Desk: US President Donald Trump has criticized Iran’s selection of Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as the country’s new Supreme Leader, calling it a “major mistake.”
Trump stated that Iran’s decision to pass leadership from Ali Khamenei to his son was ill-advised. He previously described Mojtaba Khamenei as a weak personality unsuited for Iran’s leadership.
When asked about the potential consequences of this decision, Trump replied, “We’ll see,” signaling that the United States is closely monitoring the development.
On questions regarding the possible seizure of Iranian oil, Trump said it was premature to comment but did not rule out the possibility entirely. He emphasized that the US is considering all options amid the ongoing conflict with Iran and its nuclear program.
The leadership change follows US and Israeli strikes that killed longtime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Iranian authorities subsequently appointed his son, Mojtaba, as the new Supreme Leader.
Analysts warn that this succession has intensified the ongoing war-like tensions, further complicating the political and military landscape in the region. Experts also note that the conflict between Iran, the US, and Israel is impacting not only the Middle East but global politics and energy markets.
