(Web Desk) – Pakistan Hockey Federation has removed former hockey Olympians from its administrative structure, appointing technocrats to key leadership positions including president, secretary, and treasurer.
According to official notifications, acting president Muiddin Wani appointed retired Brigadier Akmal Aziz as secretary general. Additionally, retired Captain Farukh Ateeq Khan has been named treasurer and will also serve as head of delegation for the national team traveling to Egypt for the World Cup qualifiers.
Sources within the federation suggest that Pakistan hockey’s governance may eventually transition to a governing board model similar to the structure used by the cricket board, aiming to improve administrative efficiency and professional management.
Officials say the decision follows concerns that former Olympians were unable to effectively manage administrative responsibilities. Reports indicate that internal disagreements, governance challenges, and allegations of mismanagement have contributed to the sport’s decline in recent years.
Authorities plan to adopt professional management strategies to revitalize hockey in Pakistan. Under the new framework, playing and technical matters will be handled by sports professionals, while administrative and financial operations will be managed by experts from relevant fields.
The initiative aims to restore Pakistan’s historic standing in international hockey by introducing transparent governance and modern administrative practices.
