In Colombo, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and elected to bat first, posting 159 for 7 in 20 overs. England chased down the target in the final over with four wickets in hand, keeping Pakistan’s semi-final chances alive.
The semi-final berth will be decided in Pakistan’s upcoming match against Sri Lanka. To advance, Pakistan must defeat Sri Lanka by a substantial margin; otherwise, New Zealand, with three points, will progress due to net run rate.
According to estimates, Pakistan needs to beat Sri Lanka by 65 runs. If Sri Lanka bats first, Pakistan must chase the target within 13 overs to secure a semi-final spot.
Group standings indicate England has already qualified for the semi-finals, while Sri Lanka is effectively out of contention.
