Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Yahya Afridi has convened an important meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council of Pakistan scheduled for Thursday, May 14.
According to reports, the meeting will review pending complaints against judges and discuss several key judicial matters, including issues related to the transfer of judges in the Islamabad High Court.
Sources said the council is also expected to examine a letter previously written by six judges of the Islamabad High Court concerning judicial transfers and related constitutional concerns.
The development follows reports that Justice Babar Sattar had written a letter to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi in his capacity as head of the Judicial Commission, requesting a personal hearing before any decision under Article 200 of the Constitution regarding judges’ transfers.
According to sources, Justice Babar Sattar argued that affected judges should be heard before the commission reaches a final decision on transfer-related matters.
Sources further claimed that Chief Justice Yahya Afridi had opposed calling an earlier meeting on judges’ transfers, but the session was later convened following a requisition submitted by five members led by Justice Sarfraz Dogar.
The upcoming meeting is expected to attract significant attention within Pakistan’s legal and judicial circles amid ongoing debates over judicial independence and constitutional procedures.
