The court ordered PTI founder Imran Khan to be shifted to Shifa International Hospital until the next hearing and directed the formation of a medical board.

WEB DESK: Pakistan’s Supreme Court has ordered former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan to be transferred to Shifa International Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.

The court also directed authorities to constitute a medical board for Khan and ensure that he is moved to the private hospital under strict security arrangements.

The order was issued during a hearing concerning meetings with Imran Khan and arrangements for his medical treatment.

Supreme Court orders medical board for Imran Khan

The court directed that a medical board be constituted to assess Imran Khan’s condition and oversee his treatment.

During the hearing, Justice Shahid Waheed questioned why the former prime minister’s complete medical record had not been submitted to the court.

The court directed authorities to provide Imran Khan’s complete medical record before the next hearing.

The judges also raised questions regarding medical reports that had referred to further investigations and treatment.

Court orders weekly family meetings

The Supreme Court also ordered that Imran Khan be allowed to meet his family once a week.

The court sought details of meetings between Khan and his sisters over the past three years, as well as records concerning telephone conversations between the former prime minister and his children.

The judges emphasized that meetings with family members are a legal right and should be conducted in accordance with court orders and applicable rules.

PTI told not to politicise Imran Khan’s health

During the proceedings, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan said PTI should not politicise Imran Khan’s health or his medical treatment.

The court also stressed that medical reports should not be used for political purposes.

PTI lawyer Uzair Bhandari requested that Imran Khan’s personal doctors, including Dr Uzma Khan and Dr Asim Yusuf, be allowed to meet him.

The government, meanwhile, raised concerns over previous assurances regarding media statements following meetings with Khan.

Court seeks details of Imran Khan’s cases

The Supreme Court also directed authorities to submit comprehensive details of Imran Khan’s legal status.

The court sought information on the number of cases in which he is currently an under-trial prisoner, the cases in which he has been convicted and any convictions whose sentences have been suspended.

The court also summoned officials from Adiala Jail at the next hearing and sought records of Khan’s meetings over the past three years.

Imran Khan to remain at hospital until next hearing

The Supreme Court ordered that Imran Khan remain at the private hospital until the next hearing.

It further directed that the transfer be carried out under strict security while ensuring that law and order around the hospital is not disrupted.

The court said PTI will bear the expenses of treatment at the private hospital.

The case has been adjourned until September 16.
