South Korea Stuns Czech Republic in Thrilling FIFA World Cup Opener

SEOUL – Web Desk: South Korea defeated the Czech Republic in a thrilling 2-1 victory in their FIFA World Cup opening match, showcasing a dominant performance throughout the game.

Despite South Korea’s superior play, the Czech Republic took the lead in the 59th minute when Ladislav Krejčí scored a header from a long throw-in. The Czech team remained under pressure, and South Korea equalized in the 67th minute.

The Czech Republic thought they had scored again in the 77th minute through Tomas Souček, but the goal was ruled offside. Just three minutes later, substitute Oh Hyeon-gyu scored the decisive goal to give South Korea a memorable 2-1 victory.

With this win, South Korea sits joint-top of Group A with three points, alongside co-hosts Mexico, who defeated South Africa 2-0.
