Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Sindh government has announced the launch of a new Peoples Bus Service route between Sukkur and Shikarpur, aimed at improving public transport facilities in the province.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon made the announcement while chairing a meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department, where key decisions were taken to expand the province’s transport network.
According to officials, the new route is expected to become operational next week, providing affordable and reliable travel options for commuters in the region.
A spokesperson for the transport department said the government is also considering additional routes and special initiatives for women. Plans include the distribution of pink scooters to women in Sukkur and Hyderabad to enhance mobility and independence.
The meeting further approved the procurement of electric (EV), hybrid, and double-decker buses in the upcoming fiscal year, signaling a shift towards environmentally friendly and modern transport solutions.
Officials also agreed to expand the transport network across Sindh, including new routes in Karachi, Hyderabad, and other districts.
Sharjeel Memon said special planning is underway for Hyderabad, with proposed Peoples Bus Service routes from Hyder Chowk to Kohsar and from Hyderabad to Tando Allahyar expected to launch soon.
He added that more buses will be introduced into the system in the next financial year to meet the growing demands of urban populations, particularly in Karachi.
The minister also confirmed that formalities related to EV taxi services are expected to be completed by the end of the current month, marking another step towards modernizing public transport in Sindh.
