Sindh Launches Crackdown on Overcharging Transporters for Eid

Date:

Karachi – Web Desk : The Government of Sindh has launched a campaign against transporters charging excessive fares from passengers ahead of Eid al-Fitr.

Senior provincial minister Sharjeel Inam Memon directed authorities to take strict and indiscriminate action against transport operators found overcharging travelers during the holiday season.

According to official instructions, police, district administrations, the National Highway Authority (NHA), traffic police and transport departments have been ordered to monitor fares within their jurisdictions and initiate immediate action against violators.

Memon stated that some transporters had arbitrarily increased fares, placing an additional financial burden on passengers traveling to their hometowns for Eid celebrations.

He emphasized that providing relief to the public and preventing unauthorized fare hikes is the responsibility of relevant institutions. Authorities have also been instructed to submit daily reports on enforcement actions.

The minister further directed officials to remain active in the field and ensure that public complaints are addressed promptly, so passengers can travel safely and conveniently at government-approved fares during the Eid holidays.
