Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi has expressed deep concern and sorrow over the reported detention of humanitarian volunteer Saad Edhi in Israel during a relief mission for Palestinians.
In an official statement, the governor said that preventing humanitarian volunteers from carrying out relief activities was against global humanitarian values and international law.
He stated that Saad Edhi and his companions were transporting food, medicines and other aid supplies for the people of Palestine, adding that the detention of relief workers was a failed attempt to suppress the spirit of humanity and compassion.
The governor called on the international community to take immediate notice of the incident and ensure the safe release of the detained aid workers so humanitarian assistance activities could continue without interruption.
Edhi Foundation and the Edhi family, he said, have always set an example of serving humanity beyond religion, race and nationality.
Nihal Hashmi added that the Pakistani nation stands with every individual working for humanity and that every voice raised for the people of Palestine is, in fact, a voice for humanity itself.
He further stated that humanitarian efforts cannot be stopped by obstacles and that such situations only strengthen the spirit of public service and relief work.
