Sindh Cabinet Pushes Austerity, Tightens Oversight on Government Vehicles

KARACHI: The Sindh Cabinet Sub-Committee on Austerity, chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, convened to assess government vehicle usage and reinforce fiscal discipline across departments. Attendees included ministers Syed Nasir

Hussain Shah, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, and Ali Hassan Zardari, along with senior officials.

The committee reviewed departmental vehicle allocations and discussed the financial implications of new procurements for sectors including Law, Local Government, Interior, Information, Anti-Corruption, and Universities.

Sharjeel Memon emphasized that austerity is central to the cabinet’s policy. He called for transparency in vehicle purchase, repair, and usage, stressing that only departments with genuine needs will be accommodated. All departments were instructed to submit detailed reports on their current vehicle inventory and requirements.

He also directed strict action against unauthorized use of government vehicles and mandated the creation of a digital vehicle registry to ensure transparent monitoring and accountability.
