Sindh Assembly Honors PPP Legacy, Vows to Defend Constitution and Provincial Autonomy”

Date:

Karachi: (by Staff Reporter) On the occasion of the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) 58th foundation day, the Sindh Assembly on Friday unanimously passed a resolution paying rich tribute to party founder Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, while pledging to safeguard the 1973 Constitution, the 18th Amendment, provincial autonomy, and the NFC Award shares of provinces.

The resolution, moved by PPP Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, reaffirmed that no compromise would be made on the unity, integrity, and rights of Sindh, and any attempt to undermine them would be foiled. Speaker Syed Owais Qadir Shah granted permission for the resolution, which was then adopted unanimously by the House.

According to the text, the Assembly paid homage to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto for their sacrifices for democracy, constitutional supremacy, and the principle of “one man, one vote.” It recalled Bhutto’s founding of the PPP in 1967 with the slogan of “Roti, Kapra aur Makan” and his role in giving the nation a consensus constitution that balanced powers between the federation and provinces.

The resolution further stated that under the leadership of Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the PPP continues to uphold its manifesto and legacy. It emphasized that the 18th Amendment, provincial autonomy, and NFC Award shares remain fundamental guarantees of Sindh’s rights, dignity, and unity.

Addressing the Assembly, Nisar Khuhro said Bhutto had united the nation by introducing the party system and empowering the people through the vote, strengthening the poor and middle class in the 1970 elections. He added that PPP leadership has consistently rejected divisive ideas about Sindh from 1970 to 2025.

Former Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah recalled Bhutto’s struggle against dictatorship and his role in giving the country the 1973 Constitution. Other PPP lawmakers, including Imdad Pitafi and Khairunnisa Mughal, highlighted the party’s sacrifices for democracy, noting that two of its prime ministers laid down their lives to protect it.

The resolution was passed unanimously, and the Assembly adjourned until Monday afternoon.
