Date:

Kandy, Sri Lanka – Web Desk: Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi said his team remains in contention in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup despite a defeat to England, stressing the importance of winning their remaining match while closely monitoring New Zealand’s results.

England qualified for the semi-finals of the Super 8 stage after defeating Pakistan by two wickets, powered by a brilliant century from Harry Brook. Pakistan posted 164 for 9 in their 20 overs, but England chased down the target in the final over, losing eight wickets.

Speaking at a post-match press conference, Afridi praised Brook’s performance, calling it one of the best innings of his career and acknowledging his world-class batting display. Afridi said Pakistan had aimed for a total of around 180 but lacked key partnerships.

Afridi reiterated that Pakistan’s focus remains on their own performance, saying the team is still alive in the tournament and must secure a victory while hoping New Zealand lose their matches. He also said his personal focus remains on improving his performance and contributing to Pakistan’s success whenever given the opportunity.
