ROME – Web Desk: The seventh round of US-brokered talks between Lebanon and Israel has begun in Rome, with both sides discussing various issues related to the implementation of a framework agreement, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA).
The discussions include border and security matters, as well as pending issues under the framework agreement. The talks aim to reduce differences between the two countries through diplomatic means.
Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem strongly criticized the talks, stating that direct negotiations with Israel would only bring “humiliation, disgrace, and continuous concessions” for Lebanon. In a televised address, Qassem also criticized Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, accusing him of being biased and divisive rather than playing a neutral role.
The talks in Rome come amid ongoing border tensions between Lebanon and Israel. Political analysts say the new round is part of broader efforts to reduce regional tensions, but Hezbollah’s strong opposition could complicate any potential progress.
