Seven terrorists killed in North Waziristan IBO: state media

Date:

Security sources say seven militants were killed and their hideouts destroyed during an intelligence-based operation in Eidak.

Security forces killed seven suspected militants during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Eidak area of North Waziristan, state media reported on Friday, citing security sources.

Web Desk: The security forces pursued the militants and destroyed their hideouts during the operation.

State media identified the group as Fitna al-Khawarij, a term used by Pakistani authorities for members of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Seven Militants Reportedly Killed

Security sources said the operation was conducted after intelligence indicated the presence of militants in the Eidak area.

The sources said security personnel pursued the militants and destroyed their hideouts during the operation. No details about the identities of those killed or any casualties among security personnel were provided in the initial reports.

The reported death toll and details of the operation have not been independently verified beyond the security-source and state-media accounts.

President, Prime Minister Praise Security Forces

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces following the operation, according to Radio Pakistan.

Zardari described the operation as part of efforts under the government’s Azm-e-Istehkam initiative to combat terrorism and establish lasting peace.

Prime Minister Shehbaz said continued operations against militants reflected the capabilities of the security forces and the country’s resolve to counter terrorism.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also praised the security forces. In comments reported by state media, he described the seven militants as Indian-sponsored terrorists. That characterization is an official claim and was not independently established in the reports reviewed.

Rising Security Concerns in K-P

The reported operation comes amid continued militant violence in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Dawn reported that security forces killed three militants in an intelligence-based operation in Mir Ali on September 30. A day earlier, five militants were reportedly killed in an operation in Bara, while four were killed in an operation in Dera Ismail Khan earlier in the week.

The province has also experienced several major attacks in recent weeks, including a blast at a joint checkpoint near Aman Mela in Dera Ismail Khan that killed 12 people and injured 35 others, according to reports cited by Dawn and The Express Tribune.

Counterterrorism Operations Continue

Security forces have continued intelligence-based operations in K-P and other parts of the country as authorities seek to disrupt militant networks and prevent further attacks.
