Kyiv, Ukraine – Web Desk: Russian airstrikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure have killed at least five people and injured dozens more after gas facilities were hit in overnight attacks, Ukrainian officials said.
According to Ukraine’s air force, Russia launched 11 ballistic missiles and 164 drones in the latest wave of strikes targeting energy infrastructure across multiple regions.
State-owned energy company Naftogaz said its facilities suffered significant damage, leading to production disruptions and widespread service impacts.
Officials confirmed that the dead include three company employees and two emergency response workers. At least 37 people were also injured in the attacks.
The strikes reportedly targeted energy installations in the Poltava and Kharkiv regions, causing damage to critical infrastructure and affecting gas supplies to around 3,500 customers.
Naftogaz CEO Serhiy Koretskyi said the coordinated missile and drone assault caused major operational losses and reduced output capacity.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks, accusing Russia of violating ceasefire claims and describing the strikes as “extremely hypocritical.” He said Russia could end the war immediately if it chose to do so.
Ukraine’s air force said most of the incoming missiles and drones were intercepted, but some still reached their targets.
Meanwhile, Ukraine also reported a drone strike on a Russian oil refinery in the city of Kirishi, which caused a fire but no casualties.
Analysts say the continued exchange of strikes highlights the fragility of ceasefire efforts and the ongoing intensity of the conflict.
