Russian drone and missile strikes on Ukraine have killed 17 people and caused damage to residential areas and infrastructure, Ukrainian officials say.
KYIV, Ukraine — WEB DESK: Russian forces launched a series of drone and missile attacks on Ukraine, killing at least 17 people and causing damage to residential areas and infrastructure, according to Ukrainian officials.
The strikes targeted several Ukrainian regions, with authorities reporting casualties among civilians and emergency services working to respond to the impact of the attacks.
Ukrainian officials said rescue operations were carried out in affected areas as teams searched damaged buildings and provided assistance to residents impacted by the strikes.
The attacks involved a combination of drones and missiles, according to Ukrainian authorities, who said air defence systems were activated in response to the assault.
The latest strikes come amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, which has continued to cause widespread destruction and humanitarian challenges since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly called for stronger international support and additional air defence capabilities to protect Ukrainian cities from Russian attacks.
Russia has previously stated that its military operations focus on strategic targets and has accused Ukraine and its allies of escalating the conflict.
The international community continues to call for diplomatic efforts to end the war, while fighting and aerial attacks remain ongoing across parts of Ukraine.
