Kyiv, Ukraine – Web Desk: Russia launched a large-scale missile and drone assault on Ukraine, targeting key infrastructure and residential areas, Ukrainian officials said, as tensions escalated ahead of the anniversary of Moscow’s full-scale invasion.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia fired around 50 missiles and 300 drones in a single night. Authorities said the main target was the energy sector, though several residential buildings were also damaged.
At least one person was killed in and around the capital Kyiv, with several others injured, including children, according to Ukrainian officials. Explosions were reported in multiple cities, and Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy said electricity supply was disrupted in eastern and southeastern regions.
In the western city of Lviv, an explosion killed a police officer and injured several others. Local authorities described the incident as terrorism and launched an investigation.
Russian officials said the strikes targeted Ukrainian military facilities. Meanwhile, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin claimed about 20 Ukrainian drones heading toward Moscow were intercepted, briefly forcing flight suspensions at Moscow airports.
The latest wave of attacks comes just days before the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, further heightening regional tensions and raising concerns over civilian safety and critical infrastructure security.
