Rubio Warns Keeping Strait of Hormuz Open Could Be Immediate Challenge

Date:

Paris, France – Web Desk: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has cautioned that despite achieving military objectives in Iran, keeping the Strait of Hormuz open could pose an immediate challenge, Iranian media reports.

Speaking after meetings with G7 foreign ministers in France, Rubio emphasized that the United States can achieve its strategic goals in Iran without deploying ground troops. However, he warned that Tehran might consider implementing a toll system or closing the strategic waterway, a key route for global oil shipments.

Rubio stressed the importance of international cooperation to ensure maritime security after the conflict and highlighted that weapons allocated for Ukraine are not currently being used against Iran, though the potential exists. The U.S. remains focused on monitoring Iran’s representation in upcoming negotiations.

The comments underscore the global concern over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint critical for global energy supplies and international trade.
