Doha, Qatar – Web Desk: Qatar has expressed full support for Pakistan-led mediation efforts in the ongoing regional tensions between the US and Iran, while clarifying that it is not acting as a direct mediator in the conflict.
Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majid Al Ansari stated that escalating regional tensions could spiral out of control and emphasized that no party would gain from continued conflict. Attacks on civilians or critical energy infrastructure are unacceptable.
Al Ansari underscored that all regional nations have the right to freely use the Strait of Hormuz and that discussions on the future financial framework regarding the strait are premature. Immediate priority should be reopening this vital maritime passage.
He further called for international oversight to ensure the success of any potential ceasefire or peace agreement and emphasized that all regional partners should approve any deal related to the Strait of Hormuz, rejecting unilateral dictates.
Al Ansari also highlighted that the ongoing closure of the strait has global repercussions, affecting the movement of commercial and oil-carrying vessels, including Qatari ships which have been unable to transit.
