PTI Divided Over Protest Strategy in Punjab, KP

Date:

Lahore/Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Internal divisions have surfaced within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over plans for its upcoming protest movement, with differing views emerging between leadership in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Sources indicate that PTI Punjab leaders have expressed reservations regarding statements attributed to senior leadership about forming a so-called “releasement force.” Critics argue that such proposals could complicate conditions for party workers in Punjab, where political pressure and arrests remain significant.

A senior PTI leader in hiding reportedly stated that establishing a force instead of prioritising dialogue would worsen challenges for grassroots supporters. The leader noted that conditions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are comparatively different due to the party’s governing position there, while workers in Punjab face greater difficulties.

Party sources in Punjab further suggested that public announcements about forming specialised forces risk undermining the sacrifices of detained and underground activists. Concerns were also raised about potential escalation of tensions and whether such measures could guarantee non-violent protest dynamics.

Critics within the party warned that increased arrests and pressure in Punjab have already pushed many supporters into political silence, with some shifting toward passive voter participation.

Detained PTI members in Punjab had previously advocated postponing the protest movement and proposed an all-party conference focused on regional and international issues, including the situation in Palestine.

The emerging differences highlight ongoing strategic debates within PTI regarding its future political approach and protest tactics as the party navigates complex legal and political challenges.
