PTI alleges discrimination after AJK election body rejects registration

Date:

Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has rejected the registration of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), prompting strong criticism from the party’s leadership, including Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.

Barrister Gohar said PTI is once again facing discriminatory treatment, this time in Azad Kashmir, where elections are scheduled for July. He noted that the AJK High Court had directed all political parties to complete fresh registration under the AJK Election Act 2020.

He added that PTI-AJK submitted all required documents on November 20, 2023, but its application remained pending for over 30 months before being rejected through a press release. In contrast, registrations of other major parties, including the Pakistan Peoples Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, JUI-F, and Jamaat-e-Islami, were reportedly approved.

The PTI chairman alleged that the party was being denied equal electoral opportunities in the region and vowed to challenge the decision.
