Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iran has announced plans to introduce a new maritime control mechanism in the Strait of Hormuz aimed at regulating shipping traffic in one of the world’s most strategic waterways.
According to Ibrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security Commission, Tehran has developed a professional system to manage vessel movements along designated shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz. He said further details of the mechanism would be released soon.
Azizi stated that commercial vessels cooperating with Iran would benefit from the new system, adding that specialized maritime services would be provided in exchange for fees. He also indicated that certain shipping operations would be restricted from using the designated route, though he did not provide further details.
Separately, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned the United States over broader regional and economic consequences of ongoing tensions, saying the impact would extend beyond the Middle East to global financial systems.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy transit points, through which a significant share of global oil shipments pass, making any regulatory changes in the area closely watched by international markets.
