Mumbai, India – Web Desk: Bollywood actor and business personality Preity Zinta has secured a significant legal breakthrough in her fight against alleged deepfake and AI-generated content, after the Mumbai High Court granted her permission to pursue legal action against major digital platforms including Google, Meta, and X.
According to Indian media reports, Justice Abhay Ahuja allowed Zinta’s plea, enabling her to initiate proceedings against a wide range of online material allegedly created using artificial intelligence. The content includes manipulated videos, altered images, memes, AI-generated chatbots, and impersonated digital identities.
Zinta’s legal team argued that such material, created without her consent, violates her personality rights, copyright protections, and moral rights, while also damaging her public image and reputation.
Her counsel, Rohan Kadam, informed the court that the disputed content was being created, uploaded, and circulated across multiple platforms, using AI tools to mimic the actor’s identity. He further argued that the content is not only harmful to her professional reputation but also poses risks to her personal dignity.
The court noted that while part of the case falls under its jurisdiction, some of the platforms involved operate outside Mumbai, and the content is accessible globally due to its online nature.
The case is being seen as part of a growing wave of legal actions by public figures in India against the misuse of artificial intelligence and deepfake technology.
