Rana Sanaullah says PML-N has secured a two-thirds majority in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly after the latest election results.
WEB DESK: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaullah has claimed that his party has secured a two-thirds majority in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly following the latest election results.
Sanaullah made the claim while commenting on the outcome of the AJK elections, according to Geo News.
The development comes after results from several constituencies were announced following polling and re-polling in parts of AJK.
PML-N celebrates election performance
The PML-N leadership has welcomed the results as a significant electoral achievement, with Sanaullah describing the party’s position in the AJK Assembly as strong enough to form a government with a two-thirds majority.
The claim, however, should be distinguished from the official final composition of the Assembly until the Election Commission completes the formal process and officially confirms all results.
Election results shape AJK political landscape
The AJK election has produced a closely watched contest involving major Pakistani political parties, including PML-N and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
Results from individual constituencies have continued to shape the overall balance of power in the 53-member AJK Legislative Assembly.
The final distribution of seats will determine which party or coalition is able to form the next government in Azad Kashmir.
Political significance
A two-thirds majority would give the ruling party considerable strength within the Assembly and could make it easier to pass legislation and pursue constitutional or institutional changes requiring a higher threshold of support.
The election outcome is also likely to influence political dynamics between AJK and Pakistan’s federal government.
Further official results and notifications are expected to provide a clearer picture of the final Assembly composition.
