Prime Minister calls for national unity, pledges to defeat terrorism at its roots
Islamabad: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to eliminating terrorism from the country, declaring that insurgents will be uprooted from national borders and thrown into the Arabian Sea. Speaking with members of the National Peace Message Committee, the Prime Minister emphasized the urgent need for national unity and collective action against rising extremist threats.
Prime Minister Sharif highlighted that terrorism has resurfaced as a major threat, citing alliances between groups such as the Khawarij, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan (TTA), which are reportedly backed by external enemies. He stressed that Pakistan’s strategy remains resolute: all forms of terrorism will be eradicated comprehensively, just as previous operations in 2018 successfully weakened extremist networks.
The Prime Minister also underscored Pakistan’s foundational principles, noting that the country emerged under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah with contributions from all communities and religious minorities. “Every citizen has the right to progress based on merit and effort, and all religions enjoy freedom to worship and celebrate their festivals,” he said. He added that Pakistan is endowed with vast natural resources which, if properly utilized, can resolve challenges such as poverty, unemployment, and national debt.
Highlighting the success of Pakistan’s armed forces in May 2025, Prime Minister Sharif praised the professional expertise of the military under Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s leadership. He honored the sacrifices of over 100,000 Pakistanis, including security personnel from the army, police, and Rangers, who played a pivotal role in maintaining national security.
The National Peace Message Committee, led by Maulana Tahir Ashrafi, pledged full support to the Prime Minister’s vision. Plans include a two-day conference of scholars in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, nationwide visits by committee members, collaboration with security agencies, and active participation in ideological campaigns. Participants confirmed that religious scholars will play a crucial role in countering extremism and promoting Pakistan’s message of peace through educational and social platforms.
Prime Minister Sharif concluded that the nation’s collective resolve, combined with institutional and societal support, will ensure the permanent eradication of terrorism, safeguarding Pakistan’s future for generations to come.
