Peshawar – Web Desk : A petition has been filed in the Peshawar High Court challenging the notification of three weekly court holidays, which the petitioner says hinders the public’s right to timely justice.
The petition, filed by Atlas Khan Advocate through Suleman Khan Advocate, names the Registrar of Peshawar High Court as the respondent.
The petitioner argued that the notification issued on March 12 to close the courts for three days a week creates obstacles to judicial freedom and the provision of prompt justice. He requested that courts remain open 24/7, seven days a week, so that citizens can access justice without delay.
Citing Section 352 of the Criminal Procedure Code and Supreme Court rulings, the petitioner emphasized that judges are public servants and must work to serve the people, failing which they are not entitled to their salaries.
The plea seeks the cancellation of the March 12 notification that announced three weekly holidays for judges and a 50% reduction in fuel allocations, measures taken under energy-saving initiatives and guidance from the National Judicial Policy Making Committee.
