ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has accused former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), of supporting terrorist elements and undermining national security. Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Tarar claimed that PTI has backed militants on various platforms and alleged that the banned group Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is increasingly perceived as PTI’s “military wing.”
Tarar stated that certain political forces are obstructing peace efforts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, aiming to destabilize the region and provide safe havens to extremists. He emphasized that these groups disregard the sacrifices of martyrs and seek to divide the province.
The minister highlighted Pakistan’s long-standing struggle against terrorism, recalling tragedies such as the Army Public School (APS) attack and incidents in Khuzdar. He praised the resilience of affected families and the unwavering patriotism of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Tarar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the National Action Plan, asserting that the entire nation — including civilians, rofessionals, and the armed forces — remains united in the fight against terrorism. He credited military operations like Zarb-e-Azb and Radd-ul-Fasaad for restoring peace and reopening public spaces.
Condemning attacks on mosques and innocent civilians, Tarar said extremist factions like the Khawarij have no connection to Islam. He also acknowledged the sacrifices of religious scholars and criticized political actors who exploit national tragedies for personal gain.
The remarks have sparked political debate, with PTI yet to respond to the allegations.
