Pakistan’s envoy tells the UN Security Council that lasting peace in South Asia depends on resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with international law and UN resolutions.
UNITED NATIONS, United States — WEB DESK: Pakistan has called for strict adherence to international law and United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions to achieve a peaceful and lasting resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
Addressing a meeting of the UN Security Council, Pakistan’s permanent representative said sustainable peace and stability in South Asia require the implementation of internationally recognized legal principles and the relevant UN resolutions concerning Jammu and Kashmir.
The Pakistani envoy emphasized that the unresolved Kashmir dispute remains a key issue affecting regional security and urged the international community to support efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful settlement through dialogue and diplomacy.
According to the envoy, the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) should be allowed to exercise their right to self-determination in line with the relevant UNSC resolutions.
The statement also highlighted the importance of respecting international humanitarian law and protecting the rights of civilians in conflict-affected regions.
Pakistan has consistently maintained that the Kashmir dispute should be resolved through peaceful means in accordance with international law and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. India, meanwhile, maintains that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the country and considers the matter an internal issue.
The latest remarks come as Pakistan continues to raise the Kashmir issue at international forums, calling for greater diplomatic engagement and support for a peaceful resolution.
