Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan’s Foreign Office has summoned the Afghan chargé d’affaires and lodged a strong protest over the recent Bannu suicide attack, which left security personnel dead and injured.
According to the Foreign Office, the 9 May attack killed 15 personnel and injured four others. Authorities said preliminary investigations indicate the assault was planned by militants operating from Afghan territory.
Pakistan conveyed its “serious concerns” over the alleged use of Afghan soil for terrorism, calling it unacceptable and a threat to regional peace and stability.
During the weekly media briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan continues to stress diplomacy in resolving regional issues, including relations with India, and reiterated that all legal options remain open under the Indus Waters Treaty framework.
The spokesperson also noted that Pakistan is engaging diplomatically with multiple stakeholders, including mediation efforts between Iran and the United States, though details of any signing ceremony location remain undecided.
Officials emphasized that cross-border militancy from Afghanistan continues to undermine peace efforts, despite the fact that people in border regions of both countries desire stability and cooperation.
Pakistan reiterated its position that Afghan authorities must take concrete steps to prevent their territory from being used for attacks against Pakistan.
