Colombo, Sri Lanka – Web Desk: Pakistan and Sri Lanka have agreed to strengthen cooperation on internal security, counterterrorism, illegal immigration, and drug trafficking, during high-level talks between their interior ministries.
Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Sri Lanka’s Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala during an official visit to Colombo. Sri Lanka’s Interior Ministry hosted the Pakistani delegation, with Pakistan’s High Commissioner Major General (retd) Faheem Aziz and senior officials present.
The two sides discussed expanding collaboration on internal security, counterterrorism operations, and counter-narcotics efforts. Officials also explored joint strategies to combat cybercrime and financial fraud networks, which are increasingly transnational in nature.
Naqvi offered training opportunities for Sri Lankan police officers at Pakistan’s National Police Academy, proposing officer exchange programs to enhance operational capacity and professional development in both countries.
He said deeper cooperation between the two interior ministries could open new avenues in bilateral relations and stressed the need for joint efforts to counter cyber and financial crimes.
Naqvi also invited his Sri Lankan counterpart to visit Pakistan and thanked Sri Lanka for its hospitality. Wijepala welcomed the Pakistani delegation and expressed his government’s commitment to expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Analysts say the meeting reflects growing regional security cooperation in South Asia amid rising concerns over transnational crime and digital threats.
