Pakistan renews demand for independent Palestine

Date:

NEW YORK (Web Desk) – Pakistan on Monday reiterated its demand for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Asim Iftikhar Ahmad told the 15-member UN Security Council that Pakistan voted in favour of the resolution on the Gaza plan.

He said Pakistan welcomes US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for ending the conflict, adding that their goal is to stop the massacre of innocent Palestinians in Gaza.

Asim Iftikhar said that lasting peace in the region is impossible without supporting the Palestinians. He expressed gratitude to the Security Council for approving the resolution.

It is worth mentioning that the UN Security Council has approved a resolution supporting Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan. Thirteen votes were cast in favour, while none were cast against it. Russia and China did not participate in the voting process.

The US representative appreciated the role of Pakistan, Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Türkiye, and Indonesia in the Security Council. He said that all had come together, understood the seriousness of the situation. He further that the resolution is important for the peace and stability in Gaza. He said that a historic and constructive resolution has been adopted today.

He further said that the resolution includes provisions for the deployment of an international stabilisation force in Gaza and for the establishment of an interim government in the region.

It should be noted that Hamas and other Palestinian resistance groups have rejected the UN Gaza resolution.

Hamas said that the Security Council’s resolution on Gaza does not fulfill the rights and demands of the Palestinians. They said the resolution imposes international guardianship over Gaza, and that the deployment of an international force would prevent Gaza from remaining neutral.

Hamas also said that the management of humanitarian aid in Gaza should be under Palestinian institutions supervised by the United Nations.
