Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: The federal government of Pakistan has recorded a sharp increase in petroleum levy collections, with over Rs 180 billion collected in just the past one and a half months, according to official sources.
Ministry of Finance sources said that from July to mid-April of the current fiscal year, total petroleum development levy (PDL) collection reached Rs 1,234 billion, marking an increase of nearly Rs 400 billion compared to the same period last year.
Officials described the rise as a significant fiscal surge in the country’s financial history.
Monthly data shows Rs 157 billion collected in July, Rs 103.46 billion in August, Rs 112.85 billion in September, and Rs 143.48 billion in October. In November, Rs 148.36 billion was collected, while December recorded the highest monthly figure at Rs 162.46 billion.
Collections continued with Rs 108.76 billion in January, Rs 120.39 billion in February, and Rs 139.48 billion in March. In the first half of April, an additional Rs 38 billion was collected.
Sources added that a major portion of revenue came from imported petroleum products. From July to mid-April, over Rs 598 billion was collected from imported petrol and diesel, while Rs 635.19 billion was generated from petroleum products derived from crude oil.
Analysts say the rising levy reflects increased reliance on fuel taxation as a key revenue source amid shifting global oil market conditions.
