Pakistan Moves Passport System Fully Online With Home Delivery

Date:

Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: The government has decided to fully digitize Pakistan’s passport system, introducing a complete online framework along with a home delivery service to improve efficiency and citizen convenience.

According to official details, the decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the Passport and Immigration Headquarters in Islamabad, where key reforms in the passport issuance system were reviewed.

Officials confirmed that the government has approved the principle of shifting the entire passport issuance process to e-passports. Authorities said the transition is expected to significantly reduce fraud, forgery, and identity-related manipulation once fully implemented.

The meeting also reviewed the rollout of a home delivery service for passports both within Pakistan and abroad. Preparatory work has been completed, and the service will be launched soon, allowing citizens to receive passports directly at their doorstep.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that the use of modern technology will improve transparency and ensure better public service delivery. He added that reforms are aimed at making the system faster, more secure, and more citizen-friendly.

It was also decided that passport offices across the country will adopt a cashless payment system from July 1, marking another step toward digital governance.

In addition, online passport applications will be shifted to the Pakistan ID (Pak-ID) platform to streamline processing and simplify access for applicants.

The meeting further directed that a revised policy for business passports be finalized in consultation with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). Director General Passport and Immigration Muhammad Ali Randhawa briefed the minister on ongoing reforms and future implementation plans.

Authorities say these reforms are part of a broader push toward digital transformation in public services across Pakistan.
