Lahore, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan has issued high flood alerts along the Chenab River after India released a massive surge of water by opening all gates of the Sallal Dam following heavy rains in occupied Kashmir. The flooding has triggered high-level alerts in Sialkot and Wazirabad, with authorities warning that the surge is expected to reach the Chenab River at Wazirabad within the next 48 hours.
According to the Punjab Irrigation Department, water levels in the Chenab River have begun to rise rapidly. The Pakistan Meteorological Department’s Flood Forecasting Division reported that as of 6 AM on July 23, the Chenab River was experiencing “high” level flooding at Head Khanki, Qadirabad, and Trimmu, with moderate flooding at Head Murala and Balloki. Tarbela, Chashma, Taunsa, Guddu, and Panjnad dams are experiencing low-level flooding.
The Indus River is also facing low-level flooding at Tarbela, Chashma, Taunsa, Guddu, and Sukkur, while the Kabul River at Nowshera and Kalabagh is also at low flood levels. In a separate development, urban flooding has been reported in Lahore after heavy downpours, causing water accumulation in streets and homes.
